The Health Insurance Marketplace began healthcare open enrollment for 2016 coverage on November 1, 2015 and will continue open enrollment through January 30, 2016. But in order for your affordable healthcare coverage to begin New Year’s Day 2016, you must be enrolled by December 15, 2015.

Affordable healthcare, a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and nicknamed Obamacare, has put several improvements in place for the 2016 marketplace including an easier re-enrollment process.

Now you’re able to get a better idea of which plan will work best for you by more easily comparing premiums, co-pays and deductibles. You can find your existing plan and compare it against other affordable healthcare plans. You can also factor in the financial assistance that you’re eligible for through federal subsidies to see how much this reduces your out-of-pocket costs.

The Obamacare changes are expected to assist not only returning customers, but officials hope that the changes will also make it easier for reluctant first-time purchasers to find a plan that they can truly afford. If users enroll in a plan best suited to their economic situation, they are more likely to remain in the plan without a lapse in healthcare coverage. The goal of the current healthcare open enrollment is to enroll 900,000 new previously uninsured Obamacare users.
